HOW DO I USE A BEESWAX FOOD WRAP?
Our Beeswax Food Wraps are formulated with Beeswax, Tree Resin and Jojoba Oil to create the perfect cling to seal food and keep it fresh. Simply wrap it around your item of food, plate or bowl and then use the warmth of your hands to activate the wax and make it malleable to mould and seal your food. The Wrap will work best if it’s overlapped onto itself. In colder weather, activate the Wrap first by warming it in your hands or crumpling it up a bit, which will soften the Wrap.
There really are unlimited uses…. wrap a block of cheese, a sandwich for school or work, a loaf of bread, half a lemon, cover a milk jug, a plate of leftovers or bowl of salad.
The natural antibacterial properties in the Beeswax and Jojoba Oil help keep your food fresh and protected (great for keeping cheese from drying out in the fridge, but just ensure that it’s tightly wrapped.)
What to Expect: As with anything new, you may have a bit of a learning curve when first using a Beeswax Food Wrap. Since the product is activated by the warmth of your hands, sometimes a little extra patience is needed as you mould the product around your bowls, fruit and leftovers.
Once you get into the habit of using a Beeswax Food Wrap, you’ll never go back to all that single use plastic waste!
We do not recommend using Beeswax Food Wraps for raw meat as they can’t be washed in hot water.
KEEP AWAY FROM HEAT – DO NOT MICROWAVE.
Why switch to Hibernian Botanical Beeswax Food Wraps?
Not all Beeswax Wraps are not created equal!
In producing our Beeswax Food Wraps we use Damar Tree Resin instead of the more commonly used Pine Resin, which is a cheaper and more widely available product than the Damar Tree Resin we use. Pine Resin leaves a distinct pine scent on the wraps whereas Damar Resin is odourless and is FDA approved for use in food storage.
Our Wraps are also more generously sized so that they offer you a far greater range of application.
Beeswax Food Wrap Care
Our Beeswax Food Wraps are so easy to keep clean and is washable. Simply hand wash your Wraps with cool or tepid water & eco-friendly soap, using a soft sponge or wipe with a soapy cloth and rinse. Air dry your Wraps and store folded or rolled in a drawer. Wraps will last several months, as the antibacterial properties of will allow the wraps to be used over and over again.
Composting your wraps
Beeswax Food Wraps are easy to compost in a domestic environment. Simply bury the used Wraps in your garden or home composting bin and they will naturally decompose and biodegrade. The rate of composting varies depending on how much wax is left on the Wrap, and the composting environment.
Alternatively, they can be recycled: cut them into strips and they make handy twist ties or use them wrapped around a piece of kindling as a natural fire lighter. They can also be cut into smaller squares to be used as ‘lid grips’.
Can I use my Beeswax Food Wraps in the freezer?
Beeswax Food Wraps are freezer friendly – you can keep your food frozen and protected by our Wraps for 2-3 weeks. Remember to fully defrost the item before removing the Beeswax Food Wrap to prevent the wax from cracking. Beeswax Food Wraps are breathable so always check the freshness of your food once defrosted.
